Our Mission
For years, using artificial intelligence meant sending your data to a distant server owned by someone else. Every voice memo, every interview, every private recording had to be uploaded, processed on hardware you could not see, and trusted to a privacy policy you had to hope was honored. We believe there is a better way.
Our mission is simple: create genuinely useful AI tools that run entirely on your own device. When computation happens locally, privacy is not a promise — it is a technical guarantee. Local AI Audio Transcriber is our answer to a common, sensitive task: turning spoken audio into text without ever handing that audio to a third party.
Why Browser-Based Computing Matters
The modern web browser has quietly become one of the most capable computing platforms ever built. What used to require installed desktop software can now run inside a single browser tab — securely sandboxed, instantly accessible, and available on nearly every device. By building on the open web, we can deliver sophisticated tools that require no downloads, no installation, and no special permissions.
Privacy by Design
When data never leaves the device, there is nothing to leak, sell, or subpoena. Privacy becomes the default rather than an afterthought.
Accessible to Everyone
Free, installation-free tools lower the barrier to powerful technology for students, journalists, researchers, and everyday users alike.
Efficient & Sustainable
Using the hardware you already own avoids the energy and infrastructure cost of routing every request through massive data centers.
How WebAssembly Empowers Client-Side AI
The engine behind these tools is WebAssembly (often shortened to "Wasm"). WebAssembly is a low-level, portable binary format that runs in your browser at near-native speed. It allows code originally written in performance-oriented languages to execute safely inside the browser's secure sandbox, unlocking workloads that plain JavaScript alone would struggle to handle.
For AI specifically, this is transformative. Machine-learning models involve enormous numbers of mathematical operations. WebAssembly executes those operations efficiently, and on supported devices we go a step further with WebGPU — a modern web standard that lets the browser tap directly into your graphics hardware for parallel computation. Together, they make it practical to run a real speech-recognition model, like OpenAI's Whisper, directly in your browser.
- Speed: WebAssembly runs compiled code close to native performance, so inference finishes in a reasonable time even on modest hardware.
- Portability: The same code runs across operating systems and devices without recompilation or platform-specific installers.
- Security: Everything executes inside the browser's sandbox, isolated from the rest of your system.
- Independence: Once the model is cached, the tool can keep working with no network connection at all.
The Technology We Rely On
Local AI Audio Transcriber is built on outstanding open-source work from the wider community. We use Hugging Face's Transformers.js library to run models in the browser, and OpenAI's Whisper family of speech-recognition models to perform the actual transcription. We are grateful to the researchers and engineers whose contributions make privacy-preserving, on-device AI possible.
